Planning your WordPress website: content, design and editing

Think about your regular updates

Imagine updating the site after launch. Will you publish articles, change service descriptions, add project images or update offers? Tell your developer which tasks you expect to handle yourself.

Start with a content structure

A page plan makes design decisions easier. Group related information, choose clear page names and avoid adding pages that repeat the same message. Visitors should be able to identify what you offer without exploring every menu item.

Use design to support the message

Typography, spacing and images should help people read and navigate. A strong design does not need every section to compete for attention. Choose a small set of visual styles and use them consistently.

Discuss the editing experience

The editing approach is part of the project scope. Ask which sections will be editable, how you will add new content and whether any special tools or licences are required. Request a short walkthrough at handover.

Plan for launch and upkeep

Agree who will provide hosting, manage backups and handle updates. Keep account ownership and access arrangements clear. Before launch, review the final text, mobile layout, navigation and contact workflow together.
